Why should I have counselling?

Many people are under the misconception that counselling is for the weak. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Counselling can be hard work and often requires a lot of mental strength and tenacity. People usually seek counselling when they recognise a struggle, a struggle that has started to cloud every decision and judgment and has become too hard to bear. Counselling allows you to stop time for a moment and get off the ‘merry-go-round.’ It gives you the opportunity to look at your life; your choices; your relationships; at you. Often you can start to feel worse before you feel better as we maybe unearthing a lot of deep-rooted hurts and pain, things you have unconsciously chosen to forget. However, we are not made of porcelain and we’re actually stronger than we think. Counselling can be life changing, it’s about transformation and you feeling strong enough to move on with your life in the direction that feels right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

I offer short, medium and long term counselling to adults, young people and families.
 
Short term - 6 weeks
Medium term - 10 - 12 weeks
Long term - as long as you feel you need
 
Counselling will be tailored to your personal needs. Some people need different lenghts of counselling to deal with issues in their lives and you can always extend the term of our counselling agreement if you feel you may need more time to work through your problems with a professional. We will review our work on a regular basis to ensure that you are getting the most out of our sessions.

How much will each session cost?

£45 for a 50 min session for adults and young people (11+)
 
£65 for a 50 min session for couples 
£70 for a 60 min session for families
£30 consultation session for 60 mins

How and when do I pay?

You can pay on the day using either cash, cheque or bank transfer.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

If you need to cancel a session I would ask that you give me 24 hours notice. Failure to do so will unfortunately result in the session being charged for in full.

Where are you based?

I run my private practise from home in the centre of Westbourne, Bournemouth, BH4.

What happens when I want to stop counselling?

Accepted Answer

Usually you will realise when you want to stop counselling. Maybe things won’t feel so heavy for you, the rain clouds are fewer and the sun starts to shine again.
Once you decide to stop counselling, we would dedicate the last session to looking back over all the work you’ve done during our time together.  It’s a good reminder of just how far you’ve come. 
Sometimes clients want to take a break from counselling but then decide to re-engage at a later stage as and when they need to.
